Cornerstones

In which areas of controversy does DB Schenker find itself?

skip: In which areas of controversy does DB Schenker find itself?
Climate change, globalization, energy and customer needs are the cornerstones impacting on DB Schenker when it comes to environment issues.

Climate change:

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is deemed to be the most important climate gas which has clearly reinforced the natural greenhouse effect for around 150 years now. An increase in carbon levels leads to a tangible increase in the average temperature of the earth's near-surface atmosphere. The transport sector ranks right after the energy industry as one of the main producers of carbon emissions. This means in particular that action is urgently required. It also presents huge potential for carbon savings that can be utilized. Climate change has led to greater attention being focused on climate protection, i.e. reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases such as methane. However, growing demands to protect health and the environment are no less important, i.e. reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulphur dioxides (SO2) together with carcinogenic particular matter from engines and noise reduction measures.

Globalization:

Globalization and an economy that increasingly relies on divisions of labor are causing volumes of transport to rise. Companies operate on an international scale to compete successfully on the global market; this involves the procurement of raw materials, production and sales markets. The growing flows of goods result in higher volumes of transport and related emissions.

Energy:

Mineral oil today is the world's prime raw material basis for running motor vehicles, ships and aircraft. Exporting nations face a major risk of fossil fuel shortages. The demand for oil is increasingly constantly due to the growth of industrialization in the emerging and developing countries. Energy-efficient behavior minimizes the dependency on oil as a source of energy and leads to greater planning reliability.

Customer interest:

In recent years, customers have become increasingly sensitive to the issue of climate protection. As an innovative logistics partner, we give highest priority to the needs of our customers. Which is why we don't just think about climate and environmental protection: we practice it actively every day. This applies especially within the B2B sector where "Green Products" are having an increasing effect on demand. This turns Green Logistics into an increasingly important sales argument.
