Environment commitment in Austria
Fuel-efficient driving courses also for subcontractors
skip: Fuel-efficient driving courses also for subcontractorsIn cooperation with the ÖAMTC, the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club, and the Ministry of Food, DB Schenker is organizing fuel-efficient driving courses. Part of the activities includes improving tire pressure, which can lead to a 3-5% improvement in fuel economy. The branch offices holding the courses cover the costs for these first training sessions, together with the courses for subcontractor drivers.
Expecting subcontractors to do their duty
As from January 2009, Schenker & Co. AG will no longer sign contracts with subcontractors whose trucks do not at least meet Euro 3 emission standards. An analysis is currently in progress in South Eastern Europe to see whether this target is feasible throughout the whole region.
Environment-friendly building methods
In future, new construction projects for the national companies will be closely reviewed to ensure that environment-friendly building methods are used. All possibilities for using alternative energy sources (photovoltaic, solar installations) are being constantly examined and used in the new structures where economically viable.
Currently the national companies Schenker & Co AG are reviewing the use of photovoltaic and solar installations in South Eastern Europe, in Greece, for example.
