Profile
Europe’s largest Rail Freight Operator
skip: Europe’s largest Rail Freight OperatorDB Schenker Rail comprises the three Regions East, Germany / Central and West. The Regions are supported by central functions such as Production, Sales Management, Finance and Human Resources. Business activities in the Region are carried out by highly efficient subsidiaries, which act, according to market requirements, either as full railway companies or as pure operating companies. Above and beyond this, specialized Sales, Forwarding or Logistics companies are active in national and cross-border markets.
Region East comprises the undertakings DB Schenker Rail Polska in Poland and Logistic Service Danubius in Romania. Soon, DB Schenker Rail Bulgarien in Bulgaria will join them. Germany / Central Region consists amongst other things of DB Schenker Rail Deutschland AG (Germany), DB Schenker Rail Nederland (Netherlands), DB Schenker Rail Schweiz (Switzerland) and DB Schenker Rail Danmark (Denmark). A total of ten companies belong to this Region. The companies in Region West include DB Schenker Rail UK, Euro Cargo Rail in France and Transfesa in Spain.
Strong sales management at the European level provides cross-Regional support, responding to customers and complementing the sales functions in the Regions. The Intermodal and Automotive areas, which have hitherto been managed as individual Business Segments, have been integrated into this sales management function, in order to provide sales activities from a single source.
In addition, the "Production" function plays an important and central role. Offer planning and asset management at a European level are designed to network the European offer. A network management system is being set up especially for international transportation as far as Russia and China. This will include train planning and monitoring, and taking counter-measures in the case of problems and keeping customers informed. The four international functions continue to include Finance and Human Resources.
Increasing cross-border shipments
The DB Schenker Rail Business Unit, with 113,000 freight cars and 3,600 locomotives, possesses the largest fleet in Europe. Around 34,500 employees are working in Europe to ensure that cross-border shipments are managed efficiently, and in a customer-oriented and environmentally friendly manner.
Even today, almost 60 percent of DB Schenker Rail’s services are pan-European. With the acquisition of the largest private rail freight operator in Poland, PCC Logistics, now known as DB Schenker Rail Polska S.A, DB Schenker Rail is continuing the trend.
One special offer is DB Schenker’s pan-European Railport network. This is designed for customers who do not have their own private rail connection. It provides universal, multifunctional logistics centers with highly efficient rail connections, thus ensuring that customers profit from an optimal combination of road and rail transport and hence the efficient utilization of both systems.
