In the meantime, the Stinnes Stiftung has become an element of DB Mobility Logistics AG. The foundation presents the “DB Schenker Award” to young scientists every year.
Key criteria for winning the award are practical relevance, orientation towards utility and level of innovation
Major considerations in the selection process also include the work’s practical relevance, benefit to the environment and society, and also its level of innovation. The winners of the Award not only have to demonstrate the relevance of their work for the transport and logistics segment rather they have to have in mind the practicability, the benefit to the environment and society and its level of innovation. The level of innovation shown in the work, in particular, should not be underestimated. If appropriate, innovative aspects can also be well received in the area of Research and Innovation in the Business Excellence department and be expanded.
Winner of DB Schenker Award selected by board of trustees
The winner is chosen by the foundation’s board of trustees, which currently consists of three renowned professors and of members of the DB ML AG Management Board. The board of trustees reviews submissions on an anonymous basis. Based on the review, five finalists are invited to present their entire work, with the winner selected from this group. The board meets several times during the year to define and the foundation’s strategy and to select the award winner for the year. The selection process for choosing the 2009 winner is in full swing. The decision will be taken by board of trustees in the first quarter of 2010. The DB Schenker Award will then be presented during a festive awards ceremony.
The author of the winning scientific work and the supervising chair will receive EUR 10,000 in prize money
The selection process begins with invitations every year to over 160 universities in Germany and abroad to submit entries to the Stinnes Stiftung. The competition is open to anyone who wishes to submit their scientific work to submit their scientific work on level of dissertation, PhD or similar. The DB Schenker Award is endowed with EUR 10,000 in prize money, making it one of the most attractive scientific prizes in the logistics industry. The supervising professorship will receive EUR 5,000 extra.
